![]() ![]() Amazon UK does have the Topping MX3 available although there seem to be mixed reviews on the MX3 and Zen DAC. Some further research brought my attention to the Fiio K5 Pro but I can't find that reliably here in the UK. I've been looking at the ifi Zen DAC which I can get from Amazon. So despite the E10K having lower output impedance than the Soundblaster Z headphone amp (which I've found is 22Ohm) it hasn't got low distortion? Hmmm in that case what soundcard would you recommend, whatever I buy will eventually be used on the new build in a few months so I'll just look at it as a future investmentĪlso of note, I'm in the UK and products seem to be very hard to come by here. I'm of the assumption that lower output impedance is preferable then? some very basic research searching on Google seems to suggest that. Reseating the Soundblaster Z didn't do anything. I'm building a new machine in 2-3 months so I could potentially wait and see how I get on using onboard audio on the new build. Onboard audio is "Intel HD Audio via Realtek ALC889 with 8-channel support " - I'm using a pretty old PC at the moment, motherboard is around 10 years old. That said, more traditional controller solutions have their problems, too. Which is all good and well as long as it works, which it doesn't always (reliably). Ironically, a lot of current models are actually using USB sound chips with PCIe USB controllers, I suspect for software compatibility reasons. Not necessarily cheaper but another option.Ĭoncerns that an internal card can't be any good have been around for decades but a lot of them are actually unfounded. Do you have any decent onboard audio available by any chance? You may get away with using that and an external amplifier only. If it has to be external, I'd definitely spend a bit more, or consult the used market. The E10K is a very basic DAC/HPA, not sure it even is at the level of your old card (output impedance may be low, but distortion not so much, and this quite irrespective of load impedance). Or perhaps the MAX97220 headphone amp IC needs a reflow, or even the control chip.įirst of all I would just try reseating the card though, it's running entirely on +3.3 V and the power and ground pins on PCIe x1 aren't exactly super numerous. Not sure what's up with that, the electronically inclined may want to ask an ESR meter for the condition of the 4 electrolytic caps dotted around the control chip and perhaps the one near the PCIe connector as well, maybe one of them has gone high ESR and is upsetting things. doesn't seem to be entirely uncommon for them. Here is the Android version 1.1.2 FiiO Music app: click here to download.I suspect your SB Z may just have started to fail. Please update FiiO Music app to the latest version( Android version 1.1.2 iOS version 1.3.9) if you want to use the new feature EQ from "FiiO BTR3"/"FiiO BT Control". And for HWA 96kHz, it's suggested to turn off EQ, otherwise there might be noise.ĭ. The Equalizer only works when streaming in the SBC, AAC, aptX, aptX-HD and HWA(48kHz or lower) codec. If the current version is below 1.2,you should upgrade the firmware Ĭ. How to check the current firmware version: open FiiO Music app and enter Settings->BTR3. And for HWA 96kHz, it's suggested to turn off EQ, otherwise there might be noise. Trying to downgrade may cause the unit to malfunction ī. The Equalizer only works when streaming in the SBC, AAC, aptX, aptX-HD and HWA (48kHz or lower) codec. After the firmware is upgraded, it cannot be downgraded. Notes (please read this carefully before upgrading)Ī. Improved the alert sounds and reduced the volume level Changed the Charge On/Off setting to be restored (it's ON by default) after unit rebooted.Ĩ. Changed the RGB indicator setting to be remembered after taking effect.ħ. Improved the low-power notification, preventing redundant alerts Ħ. Improved the issue that during a phone call, the voice heard at the other end is not very clear ĥ. Upgrade HWA to version 2.0, with improvements on the audio stuttering and some incompatibility issues (such as no sound output after switching to different apps) Ĥ. Added In-Vehicle mode (connected with car via USB cable and powers on/off automatically when car engine starts/stops) ģ. ![]() The detailed upgrade log of the BTR3 FW1.2 is as follows:Ģ. In this new firmware, we have upgraded the HWA to version 2.0 and also added the long-awaited Equalizer function, which allows you to freely adjust the sound to better fit your ears. So after months of hard work, and with the help of the HWA team and our beta users, a more advanced and powerful new firmware is now finally available for you! And after going through these reviews, we found that there're still a lot of potentials to be mined on the BTR3. The BTR3 is a small yet powerful Bluetooth amp designed to improve the sound of your smart phone that no longer has a headphone jack.Įver since its release, it has been well praised by the customers with numerous reviews provided. ![]()
